Outer Banks Fishing Report February 13, 2026 - Winter Gulf Stream Fishing 🎣

Winter deep sea fishing in the Gulf Stream off the Outer Banks can still produce solid offshore action when weather allows. Just 30–40 miles offshore, the warm current attracts migratory pelagic species even in colder months.

Winter catches often include yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, wahoo, seasonal bluefin tuna, and occasional mahi-mahi in warmer pockets.

Temperature breaks and current edges create feeding zones where bait gathers and big predators follow. While trips depend on safe weather windows, winter offshore days can mean clear water, lighter boat traffic, and excellent tuna opportunities!

Deep sea fishing in the Outer Banks isn’t only a summer experience — the winter Gulf Stream still delivers.

11.20.10:Blackfin Tuna and Wahoo

The fishing has been great with catches of Blackfin and Yellowfin Tuna. We caught a White Marlin last week. We have been having some great fishing trips but my camera hasn't been so lucky. The following picture is from Nov. 20th with a great catch of Blackfin Tuna and Wahoo. My wife is dragging me early to go get some great deals after Thanksgiving, camera included.
Have a great Thanksgiving!

4/23/10: Big Eye Tuna

It was a beautiful morning. We found a huge mark of Bluefins and Big Eyes mixed together. We got a single big bite. We thought it was a Bluefin at first but after the fight lasted 3 hours it ended up being a Big Eye Tuna. This Big Eye weighed in at 220lbs. Jason did a great job reeling in this tough Big Eye.

4/21/10: Bluefin and Yellowfin Tuna

Started the morning off kind of slow. We had very few bites but by midday the Bluefin showed up. The fishing for the rest of the day was excellent. We ended up releasing a couple of Bluefin and kept this one that weighed 180lbs. At the end of the day we were having multiple hook ups and had a Yellowfin Tuna to top it off.

Dec.19, 2009-Big Waves

Picture was taken December 19, 2009 at the Avalon Pier in Kill Devil Hills. We had some nice size waves along with high winds. Nobody was able to go fishing.
