March Fishing:Bluefin Tuna and Wahoo pic1

It's Spring time even though it doesn't feel like spring. It's been a bit chilly here on the Outer Banks. That doesn't matter when you have a boat full of anglers eager to catch some fish. We reeled in a nice size Bluefin Tuna along with a Wahoo.

March and flooding

The ocean has washed over again at the S-Curve in Rodanthe plus Beach road in Kitty Hawk has been flooded. The ocean has been roaring all night-something that you don't hear every often. Hatteras Island has had the most flooding. Wish everyone safe travels and to be mindful of the NCDOT workers as they clear the roads. The rough seas has had the boats stuck at the docks and the weatherman has announced that it will stay rough until Thursday. Hope to get out fishing soon! Spring is just around the corner and they are calling for warm weather next week.

If you have never fished for Bluefin or maybe never thought to fish for Bluefin read the following and it just might change your mind.  Atlantic bluefin are native to both the western and eastern Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. Atlantic bluefin have become extinct in the Black Sea.

Atlantic bluefin tuna may exceed 450 kilograms (990 lb) in weight, and rival the blue marlin and swordfish as the largest order of vertebrates. Throughout recorded history, the Atlantic bluefin tuna has been highly prized as a food fish. Besides their commercial value as food, the great size, speed, and power they display has attracted the admiration of fishermen, writers, and scientists.

The Atlantic bluefin tuna has been the foundation of one of the world's most lucrative commercial fisheries. Medium-sized and large individuals are heavily targeted for the Japanese raw fish market, where all bluefin species are highly prized for sushi and sashimi.

We are busy doing some yearly maintenance on the boat and are eager to start fishing. Now is the time that the Bluefin Tuna start showing up.
